有位信徒向默仙禪師說道：“我的妻子慳貪吝嗇，對於好事，一財不捨，你能慈悲到我家去，向我太太開示，行些善事好嗎？”默仙非常慈悲地答允。當默仙到達信徒家時，信徒的妻子出來迎接，但一杯茶水都捨不得端出來供養，禪師就握著一個拳頭說道：“夫人，你看我的手，天天都是這樣，你覺得如何？”夫人：“如果手天天這個樣子，這是有毛病，畸形呀！”“這樣子是畸形！”接著默仙禪師把手伸張成一個手掌，問道：“假如天天這樣子呢？”夫人：“這樣子也是畸形！”默仙禪師立刻道：“夫人！不錯，這都是畸形，錢只知道貪取，不知道布施，是畸形。錢只知道花用，不知道儲蓄，也是畸形。錢要流通，要能進能出，要量入為出。”這位夫人在默仙禪師巧妙比喻之下，對做人處事和經濟觀念，用財之道，了然於心了！世間上有人過分貪財，有人過分施捨，均非佛教中道之義。慳貪之人應知喜捨結緣乃發財順利之因，不播種，怎有收成？布施之人應在不自苦不自惱情形下為之，否則即為不淨之施。默仙禪師以掌為喻，實有至理。國際佛學網
