This is a 30 shot panorama of the Crux & Carina region of the Milky Way as it aligns perpendicular to the horizon at The Pinnacles Desert, 2 hours north of Perth in Western Australia.
I tried a different method for the foreground lighting on this one, simply putting my fairly bright handheld torch off to the left hand side. I placed it on the ground to accentuate the textures on the desert floor. I was surprised how short of an exposure I needed, just one third of a second.
Prominent in this image is the pink coloured Carina Nebula, just above centre. The dark Coalsack Nebula is just below that with Crux to its immediate left. The deep red region near the top is the Gum Nebula.
