pjshuleski This morning we woke up to a full-blown sandstorm at Stovepipe Wells. Shortly after the power went out and stayed off for over 7 hours. Our hiking plans for the day had to change since the sandstorm covered the whole length of the valley. We headed to the ghost town of Rhyolite Nevada for the day, where it was windy, but you weren’t eating sand. On our way back to Stovepipe we stopped at the original Stovepipe Wells on the east side of the Mesquite Dunes. Historically, this water well would be obscured by drifting sand and to mark the location a length of stovepipe was inserted, hence the name. Here the air was still filled by fine sand with the heavier sand carried by the wind inches above the ground. I was fortunate enough to capture this image of the moving sand along some of the drifts.

I’m sorry I can’t thank you individually for all of your inspiring comments but Thank You!! It gives me great pleasure to share some of what I see in the beauty of nature and know there are many others with the same appreciation of our natural world.
